Exploring Adobe Photoshop Lightroom’s Slideshow, Print and Web Features

When Adobe set out to create Lightroom, I was unsure which way they were heading with the application. It was obvious that they were protecting their turf vis-à-vis Apple’s Aperture, but who knows where the company would take it. Now that it is out, questions are answered. Not all photographers have a need for Photoshop (I consider it more of a digital artist’s tool than a photographers tool, but that’s me) and Lightroom 1.0 fits into a space that Adobe was previously lacking, and that was in image management and output. I looked at the Library and Develop modules of Lightroom 1.0 in part one of this two part first look. It gave a brief overview of the toolsets found in those modules. In part 2, the Slideshow, Print and Web modules will be the topic of exploration.

First Look: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.0 from Digital Producer Magazine

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is an image management system for photographers who need more management capabilities than what comes with Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. It is not a replacement for those editing tools, but rather, it is a workflow application that enables you to import, sort, tweak, display, and otherwise organize your digital images.

The application is designed to be the go to application after a shoot, where photographers can download, sort, organize, keyword, and manage their images. It features five main Modules that you work in. These are Library, Develop, Slideshow, Print, and Web. In Part One of this two part series, we’ll take a look at the Library and Develop Modules to this version 1.0 software.

Dilbert – Drawn with Photoshop and the Wacom Cintiq

The Dilbert Blog: Most Frequently Asked Questions

6. Do you still draw the comic on paper? Most cartoonists still use paper, at least for most of the work. They typically finish it off on Photoshop after scanning the inked work. Photoshop might be used for the lettering (using a font of your own handwriting) or adding shading and effects.

About 2 years ago I had some hand problems (from overuse) and switched to drawing directly to the computer, which is easier on my hand. I have a computer monitor that allows me to draw directly to the screen (as opposed to a tablet on the desk). It’s the 21SX by Wacom. It cut my production time in half. It’s different from drawing on paper, and there’s a learning curve of a few months to get it down. But once you do, it’s amazing. I use Photoshop for the entire process now. Then I hit a few keys and e-mail it to United Media.

How to Import/Place an Image in a PDF

How to Import/Place an Image in a PDF

Craig Ball, Esq., veteran speaker and expert in electronic discovery, was one of the first on the circuit that welcomed me. We had an opportunity to talk about the legal market and Acrobat. I always look forward to seeing him at legal tradeshows around the country. The very first time I met Craig, he discussed how he used Acrobat to present information and shared a frustration with the product.

“I can’t just place an image into a PDF. Why not?”

In Acrobat 6 and 7, there was a multi-step process to create a stamp and place an image, but that was a lot of work.

In Acrobat 8 Professional, placing an image is much easier. Craig . . . this one’s for you!

That’s right, that picture up there is a computer-generated version of Korean actress Song Hye Kyo (shown below). It was created by Indonesian CG artist Max Edwin Wahyudi using a combination of digital sculpting, design application Pixelogic Zbrush and animation modeling software Autodesk 3DS Max.

Photoshop Lightroom review from Macworld Magazine

After a year in public beta, Adobe has released Photoshop Lightroom 1.0, a brand-new workflow tool that combines image editing and photo management with the ability to produce slide shows, high-quality prints, and Web portfolios. Like Apple’s Aperture, against which it competes, Lightroom is designed as a professional-level product that also appeals to serious amateur photographers. After a year in development, Lightroom is a feature-rich and powerful tool, even in its version-1.0 state. While I found a few glitches and anomalies, they are mostly minor and do little to detract from Lightroom’s impressive debut.
