Adobe launched three Photoshop apps for the iPad today as part of its “Photoshop Touch” series of tools.
The apps go along with your desktop version to enhance your experience and productivity.
Here’s the breakdown of each app:
Adobe Eazel ($4.99) turns your iPad into a canvas, allowing you to paint pictures with touch-based gestures. You can then send your paintings to Photoshop CS5 and render them into any file type you want.
Adobe Color Lava ($2.99) will allow you to mix colors on your iPad and create swatches that you can import to Photoshop CS5 on your computer. It’s almost like finger painting to create the perfect color swatch.
Adobe Nav ($1.99) acts as a secondary controller for Photoshop CS5. All you have to do is connect to the same wifi network as your desktop and you can select which tools you want to use. You can also view Photoshop documents on the iPad’s screen.

Washington, D.C., May 5, 2011 – Plants that digest toxic waste, parks built from old building materials, trees that lower utility bills and many other sustainable concepts are part of a new free educational resource from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). The resource is available at www.asla.org/animations.
Sustainable Animations“Few outside of the landscape architecture profession fully understand the benefits of sustainable landscape design, and even less know how these design techniques actually work,” said ASLA President Jonathan Mueller, FASLA. ”This new resource will serve as Sustainable Design 101 for students and teachers alike by explaining complex environmental systems in a clear, understandable format.”
Made possible by a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, the site includes six animations to view at home or in the classroom; more than 60 different classroom activities, videos, games, and lesson plans that cover grades K-12; plus 20 examples of real-world projects from around the world.
ASLA developed the animations with author and Google SketchUp expert Daniel Tal, ASLA. The six animations include Building a Park out of Waste, Energy Efficient Home Landscapes, Designing for Active Living, From Industrial Waste to Community Park, Leveraging the Landscape to Manage Water and Revitalizing Communities with Parks. Each animation includes an accompanying educational resource with classroom activities and interactive case studies. Four more animations and educational resource guides are planned for 2011.

A great interview with the art department at Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) highlighting the creative process and team behind “Rango” and how ZBrush contributed!
A large part of the film’s success is the artistry behind it. George Lucas’ famed Industrial Light & Magic took the helm for the movie’s animation, with a result that Roger Ebert described as “respects the tradition of painstakingly drawn animated classics, and does interesting things with space and perspective with its wild action sequences.” There is no doubt that Rango has a visual style all its own and Pixologic was thrilled to be able to speak with the art team behind the movie to learn how it came about.
ZBrush 4 is available at an educational discount price of $458.95.

ZBrush and Go!
With GoZ, artists can seamlessly connect ZBrush projects with other applications, sending assets to and from ZBrush with the click of a button. This makes it exceptionally simple to use other programs for CAD-style modeling and animation while also staying inside ZBrush’s customizable user interface to conceptualize, create, complete and render high quality artwork quickly and efficiently. Use each program for its strengths and move smoothly between the two.
GoZ Update 1 for ZBrush 4 now brings Photoshop support.
As part of its commitment to expanding the capabilities of GoZ, Pixologic has added Photoshop support as part of GoZ Update 1 in addition to expanding support for new versions of its previously supported applications.
For those that have the Extended version of Photoshop CS4 or CS5, GoZ now makes it possible to paint directly on to the model’s texture rather than using PolyPaint. As a result, texture painting can be completely independent of the model’s resolution.
ZBrush 4 is available at an educational discount price of $458.95.

QuarkXPress 9 is due to ship later this month, promising more contextual automation to simplify the creation of complex documents. For example, a new feature can automatically apply styles to text, based on sophisticated rules and a new tool lets you create complex shapes without having to draw them by hand. The new version of QuarkXPress offers nearly a dozen enhancements of that nature.
A major new capability lets you export documents to ePub format for the creation of e-books. QuarkXPress 9 understands the issues inherent in creating ePub files, and provides a good tool for doing so.
Quark has also promoted a new feature called App Studio, which lets you create publications for distribution through an iPad app, using Apple’s in-app purchasing capability to manage single-issue and subscription sales. This feature isn’t part of the QuarkXPress 9.0 test drive that launched earlier today or the final 9.0 version that Quark will release on April 26th. Rather, Quark says App Studio will be included in a free upgrade to version 9 that is expected to ship by August.
QuarkXPress 8.0 is available at an educational discount price of $199.95.
Customers who buy QuarkXPress 8 between January 1, 2011 and April 30, 2011 qualify for a free upgrade to QuarkXPress 9!
