TechBlog: Virtually tied: Parallels Desktop vs. VMWare Fusion
Both Parallels and Fusion are excellent programs, and while Ive been trying to figure out which is better, Ive come to the conclusion that theyre pretty evenly matched. You could order me to remove either one from my MacBooks hard drive, and Id be happy with the one thats left.
But in setting up review criteria and seeing where each program has an advantage, I’d have to give the edge to Parallels, but just barely. It’s a more mature product, and it shows, but VMWare has extensive experience in virtualization, and that shows, too.
The Official Parallels Virtualization Blog: New build for Mac Pro available now
Just a few minutes ago our developers posted a new build 1898 for Desktop for Mac that substantially improves Mac Pro and 64-bit iMac performance and eliminates kernel panics and major bugs.
For those users who have Mac Pros and 64-bit iMacs with more than 2GB of RAM, youve had to manually limit your RAM via the instructions I laid out in my “Q&A about the Update RC” post. In this build, weve included a tool that will help you take this action without any command line coding. With a single click you can limit your RAM and make your Mac Pro fully compatible with this build. You can easily revert your memory back at any time to the full configuration with the same tool.
Its very important to note that limiting your RAM configuration to run Parallels Desktop will NOT prevent you from running any other OS X application although they may run slightly slower. It simply helps our hypervisor “play nice” with the Mac Pro.
This build also adds support for Windows Vista RC1 as a guest OS, and adds an improved Parallels Tools package for all of the Vista builds that improves mouse movement, and video resolutions, and beefs up networking. I highly recommend you install it if youre running Vista

Additionally, student guides are available from the Design Library embedded in SolidWorks Education Edition 2007-2008.
“Design and analysis are increasingly integrated functions in professional engineering jobs, and this coupling is important for those intent on designing better products,” said Ashland O. Brown, professor of mechanical engineering at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. “SolidWorks Corporation has addressed this both in its commercial software and in its education edition, clearly taking it to the next level in this advanced package.”
Batch Renaming Photographs Using Adobe Bridge
The new school year is upon us. The year will bring new students, new experiences, and new memories. Of course you will want to preserve your memories using a digital camera. The way digital cameras name photographs has always bugged me. DC45000.jpg offers little clue to what event was being photographed. Renaming the photo to something like soccer-001.jpg offers a more descriptive name that will also prove more helpful down the road when you want to find the photos. Of course you can use the camera to set up the file name, but have your tried navigating your camera’s preferences to do this? What a pain!
I often take multiple pictures of a single event (say…a soccer game) and the Adobe Bridge helps me easily and quickly batch rename the files.

MindJet MindManager 7- MacLife Review
MindManager 7 is a tool for creating mind maps on your Mac. The mind map was invented as a way to liberate note-taking students and professionals from strictly linear organization. Put your main topic in the middle and add layers of subtopics around it with liberal use of colors and images. Mind mapping hasn’t supplanted traditional note taking, but its adaptability has earned it a strong following.
