The Software That Will Take Digital F/X to the Next Level of Awesome

The Software That Will Take Digital F/X to the Next Level of Awesome

Stam likes hideous complications. He works for Autodesk, the software company that produces Maya, the worlds leading 3-D modeling software. Maya has shaped nearly every CG visual effect youve seen since 1998 — from the first Matrix to the newest Spider-Man.

With his current project, a new module for Maya called Nucleus, Stam is getting closer than ever to his goal. Stams formulas allow two or three elements to interact as they would in the real word — smoke with wind, or fabric with solid objects. What hasn’t been accomplished yet is a system that can encompass and express dynamically all of the earthly elements and physical laws at once. Stam wants software that can play God with pixels. Right now, hes only in the early stages, but Nucleus is taking the special effects world a step closer to Stams dream of a unified physics-driven system that can produce eye-popping visual effects all by itself.

Digital Collage and Scrapbooks in Photoshop Elements 6

Digital Collage and Scrapbooks in Photoshop Elements 6

Digital Collage and Digital Scrapbooks are great outlets for using all those pictures we take. I love to create collages and this article will show the method to my madness and hopefully to inspire you along the way.

If you are like me, just looking at what someone else has done sparks my creativity. Below is an image of a finished digital collage. I will break it down in layers then show the printed layers and a physically assembled card at the end. I used various features of Photoshop Elements 6 including Filters, Adjustment Layers and Layer Blending Modes.

Printing tips for Photoshop, Lightroom

Printing tips for Photoshop, Lightroom

Adobe’s famous Russell Brown has created three new video tutorials meant to help get the best results when printing from Photoshop CS3 (with the 10.0.1 update) to various popular printers:

Meanwhile Lightroom PM Tom Hogarty has posted info about printing on Mac OS X Leopard with Lightroom 1.3.1. Tom talks about geeky bits like the Mac’s transition from “Tioga” printer drivers (introduced in 10.0, now unsupported) to CUPS-based drivers (now required). The upshot, says Tom, is that for proper results you should “seek out a fully Leopard compatible printer driver from the printer manufacturer.”
