Adobe’s InDesign has been pummeling QuarkXPress with a superior feature set and aggressive pricing. But with QuarkXPress 7, Quark has landed a solid counterpunch directly on the chin of its adversary. Quark has released an update to its flagship page-layout app that has several useful new features and many improvements to old features, and raises the bar in the battle for page-layout supremacy. QuarkXPress 7 closes the features gap with InDesign and, in some cases, includes options unique to QuarkXPress.

AnandTech: Apple’s Mac Pro – Upgrading CPUs, Memory & Running XP
Weeks have passed since Apple’s announcement of the Mac Pro, and while we wanted to conclude our look at the Mac Pro much earlier, like many Mac Pro users we ran into some serious performance issues under Windows XP. With the Mac Pro performance issues resolved and some more time with the system under our belts, we’re able to bring you the final part in our Mac Pro coverage. This time we’re focusing on upgrading the memory and CPUs in the Mac Pro, as well as looking at its performance as a PC running Windows XP.
As a high end Xeon based machine that can run both Mac OS X and Windows XP, the Mac Pro has the potential to be the power user’s dream. Today our task is to find out just how upgradable this machine is and how well it runs XP, if it can truly be your only system if you’re a Mac and PC user.

Crack the San Jose Semaphore

Located within the top floors of Adobe’s Almaden Tower headquarters in San Jose, California, San Jose Semaphore is a multi-sensory kinetic artwork that illuminates the San Jose skyline with the transmission of a coded message. Cracking the coded message is posed as a challenge for the public.
With 40 new and enhanced features, CorelDraw X3 is a substantial update. Would coming out and calling CorelDraw X3 “CorelDRAW 13” have jinxed it? I don’t think so…the new features speak for themselves
Maya 8 Review: How the Standard-Bearer Holds Up
Maya 8 is the first release to come from the software’s new owner, Autodesk. The user community has been awash in rumors and hearsay for months now: only time will tell if this first release does anything to quiet those conversations. The main thrust of this upgrade is helping Maya to play nice with other Autodesk applications as well to streamline some of Maya’s existing toolset. While these are not necessarily at the top of all users’ wish lists, they should prove useful should Autodesk continue to offer multiple apps, as they have promised to do with Maya and 3ds Max. The commitment to a continuation of both Maya and 3ds Max is the addition of the integrated FBX format, which allows users to import and export data between the two apps.
Wacom Intuos3 6 x 11 USB Tablet review from Digital Producer
The Intuos3 6×11 is the latest addition to Wacom‘s high-end line of pressure-sensitive pen tablets. Sporting exactly the same base features as the other models in the line, the new configuration offers a wide aspect for a more natural feel when working with wide-format displays and multiple displays.
The Intuos3 6×11 has everything my usual Intuos3 6×8 has, but with the very handy addition of more usable tablet surface. And for just $40 more than the 6″ x 8″ model, I think it’s worth it. In fact, the only reason I could see not going for it would be limited desk space, as the 6×11 model takes up 16.5 inches horizontally, as compared with the 6×8’s 13.6 inches. (On my keyboard tray, the 6×11 model fits, along with a Matias Tactile Pro keyboard, with about an inch to spare. The Tactile Pro is the same size as an Apple Pro Keyboard. My tray is 36 inches wide.) Even if you don’t use multiple monitors or have a wide-format monitor, the additional working surface will be welcome. I give the Intuos3 6×11 a Strong Buy recommendation.
